Wellness news, tips and inspiration for a healthier tomorrow

Dr. John Soliman spent his childhood watching his veterinarian father treat animals. His father had hopes of him following in his footsteps, but Dr. Soliman’s dreams veered towards a different path. “My father wanted me to get into veterinary medicine and I said, ‘Well, your patients don’t talk to you, Dad.  I kind of want to hear what’s going on with the patient’, and in that aspect, I’ve always had a desire to take care of other people.”

Once in Medical school at Midwestern University’s Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, that desire grew stronger. Dr. Soliman longed for a career that would truly make a difference in people’s lives, and after realizing his affinity towards fixing things, he found himself gravitating towards neurosurgery. “Giving patients restoration of function is always one of the biggest blessings that we do as a neurosurgeon,” he says. “We can see them go from a crippled person to walking and sometimes it’s a significant change.”

After completing his internship and residency in Normal, Illinois, Dr. Soliman received specialized training working at some of the leading medical centers in Illinois including Northwestern University Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago and the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Dr. Soliman now resides in the Tampa area, and specializes in neurosurgery at Oak Hill Hospital. He treats patients with herniated discs, spinal stenosis, brain trauma, spine tumors, spinal stenosis and more, performing complex surgeries such as spinal cord surgery and spinal fusion.

Dr. Soliman sees patients at three back pain clinic locations in Brookville, Fl, Lutz, Fl and Tampa, Fl. At their offices, Dr. Soliman and his team see patients with a range of problems from degenerative spines to significant trauma victims. “We’re able to cover the gamut of neurosurgery in our practice and take care of patients in multiple arenas,” he says. “I think that experience and being able to take care of patients in a whole gamut of care scenarios will make the neurosurgeon or the spine surgeon a more robust and better-rounded surgeon.”

When he isn’t practicing medicine, you can find Dr. Soliman spending time with his four young children and focusing on his faith—a passion he shares with them. “We are very focused on our Christian faith.  We try to read the bible together.  We try to pray together every day.  We try to attend any religious ceremonies or bible study together.” And that faith is something he carries with him each and every day, from his days in surgery to his nights with his family.
